Weekend Irish Breaks in Uíbh Ráthach

Do you need to get away from it all for just a few days?  Fed up of city breaks, and want to try something a little bit different?  

Nestled among the hills of the Iveragh Peninsula, with Corrán Tuathail (Ireland's highest mountain) at our backs and having spectacular views of the majestic Atlantic and the world famous Skellig around every corner, Gaeltacht Uíbh Ráthaigh is the perfect place to rediscover the great outdoors.  

Count among your challenges mastering the basics of the Irish language while experiencing the world class looped walks and cycle routes as well as challenging yourself with sea sports and equestrian activities.  

Or maybe you are someone of a creative or artistic frame of mind? Relax and enjoy the variety of craft and artistic activities blended especially to encourage your creativity in the inspirational surroundings of Gaeltacht Uíbh Ráthaigh.

During these weekend-long courses you will receive quality tuition in Irish from our qualified and experienced teagascóir Gaeilge, while having expert guidance from local guides, artists and crafts people.  


A Bit of Everything Weekend

Beginning on Saturday morning at 10.00 am with an introductory rang Gaeilge, this relaxed weekend is a combination of very accessible outdoor activities and Irish classes. You will follow in the footsteps of the ancient clergy on the newly developed Monks Trail in Ballinskelligs, and get a flavour of the conditions endured by local farmers travelling the Butter Road to deliver their produce for sale in Cork City. You will learn a local song or two and hear some of the tales of the reknowned folklorist Seán Ó Conaill at his home on the hillside village of Cill Rialaig. Lunch on Saturday and Sunday as well as evening meal on Saturday are included.

Adventure Weekend 

Begins on Friday evening at 6pm (with registration from 4pm), the highlight of the weekend is undoubtedly a boat trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sceilig Mhichíl, the first Irish location to feature in Star Wars.  The weekend also gives you the opportunity to improve your Irish with classes aimed at beginners and improvers, and you will have plenty of opportunity to practice your Gaeilge along with visiting the spectacular Mass Path Walk, having a go at sea sports in Derrynane after a picnic lunch, and experiencing the best of local food, ceol, caint agus craic!  Dinner on Friday and Saturday night are included, and you are guaranteed to return home refreshed and envigorated!

Walking Weekend

Beginning on Saturday morning at 10.00 am with an introductory rang Gaeilge, this weekend is devoted to exploring the unequalled suite of walks available in Gaeltacht Uíbh Ráthaigh - Baile 'n Sceilg, An Gleann, Cathair Dónall and An Dromod.  If you wish, you can avail of a unique opportunity to climb Corrán Tuathail with Irish speaking guide Con Moriarty and his team at Hidden Ireland Tours as well. You will be glad to dine on the wonderfully fresh local foods prepared and served in the charming surrounds of the local restaurants after working up an appetite on the hills - you might even summon up the energy to sing a song or dance a set in the pub later!  Packed lunch on Saturday and Sunday are included.
